Job Overview

Leads the engineering and technical development of custom vehicles, restomods, performance systems, chassis components, electrical systems, and fabricated parts. Working closely with project management, fabrication, service, paint and body, and assembly, responsibilities include vehicle measurements, component packaging, suspension and brake design, drivetrain integration, cooling, fuel, exhaust, and HVAC systems, as well as approving technical drawings and specifications.

  • Responsibilities

      • Lead the engineering and technical planning of complete builds, modifications, vehicle systems, and custom-fabricated components.

      • Establish vehicle packaging, measurements, clearances, interfaces, performance requirements, and design criteria.

      • Develop or review chassis, suspension, steering, braking, drivetrain, cooling, fuel, exhaust, HVAC, and related system solutions.

      • Coordinate engineering decisions with customer requirements, project budgets, parts availability, fabrication methods, serviceability, and production schedules.

      • Review and approve drawings, models, bills of material, calculations, specifications, and fabrication information before release.

      • Support mockup, prototype development, problem solving, test fitting, commissioning, and final validation.

      • Maintain engineering documentation, configuration control, revision history, and technical standards.

      • Mentor design personnel and collaborate closely with fabricators, technicians, suppliers, and quality-control staff.

    Requirements

      • Degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent advanced vehicle-design and integration experience.

      • Demonstrated experience engineering custom, performance, specialty, motorsport, restoration, or low-volume production vehicles.

      • Strong understanding of chassis, suspension, steering, braking, drivetrain, thermal, fuel, exhaust, HVAC, and vehicle-integration principles.

      • Proficiency with professional CAD and engineering documentation tools; SolidWorks or comparable experience preferred.

      • Ability to apply sound engineering judgment to materials, loading, packaging, manufacturability, serviceability, and safety.

      • Experience working directly with fabrication, machining, assembly, testing, and suppliers.

      • Strong leadership, technical communication, documentation, and cross-functional problem-solving skills.

      • A portfolio or examples of completed vehicle, component, or systems-development work may be requested.
