Job Overview

This position provides leadership and oversight for the complete 1776 Customs operation. The General Manager is responsible for coordinating departments, staffing, production, customer commitments, financial performance, safety, quality, and the overall success of the facility. The ideal candidate will have substantial automotive, manufacturing, restoration, service, or shop-management experience and the ability to build strong systems, teams, and accountability.

  • Responsibilities

      • Translate executive direction into practical operating plans, staffing priorities, budgets, and performance expectations.

      • Coordinate engineering, custom builds, service, paint and body, parts, quality, sales, and administration as one integrated operation.

      • Establish measurable goals for safety, quality, productivity, scheduling, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.

      • Review production status, project risks, manpower needs, capacity, work in process, and departmental performance.

      • Develop managers and team members through clear expectations, coaching, accountability, and regular performance feedback.

      • Support customer commitments, major project decisions, vendor relationships, and resolution of significant operational issues.

      • Maintain effective operating procedures, documentation systems, facility standards, and continuous-improvement practices.

      • Promote a culture of integrity, craftsmanship, teamwork, respect, and responsible stewardship of customer vehicles and company resources.

    Requirements

      • Substantial leadership experience in automotive restoration, custom vehicles, service, manufacturing, fabrication, or a comparable production environment.

      • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple departments and balance customer, production, staffing, quality, and financial priorities.

      • Strong understanding of production planning, project-based operations, workflow management, and performance measurement.

      • Working financial knowledge, including budgets, labor utilization, job costs, work in process, cash flow, and operating results.

      • Clear written and verbal communication skills with employees, customers, vendors, and professional advisors.

      • Strong judgment, organization, problem-solving ability, and willingness to make timely decisions.

      • Proficiency with common business, scheduling, accounting, CRM, and shop-management technology.

      • A relevant degree or professional credential is helpful, but equivalent leadership and industry experience will be considered.
